Preliminary Pre-Purchase Report Information

A Pre-Purchase Report has a wide range of buyer-requested and doctor-advised testing. Each buyer, in consultation with their trainer and veterinarian, has a concept or preference as to the extent of the examination. To avoid any miscommunication or misunderstanding as to the extent and cost of the examination, we ask that you, the buyer, inform us in advance of your preferences as to the extent of this evaluation. It is strongly suggested that the buyer ask for an estimate as to the cost of this pre-purchase report and other procedures that may be related. We will do our best to tailor the examination to your financial limitations. We will offer suggestions as to the extent of the examination, but will require your permission to proceed forward with the examination. As you are probably aware, the more tests that are performed, the more information gained.

There are three primary goals of the examination:

1. Expose any abnormalities that may possibly affect future soundness.
2. Expose any abnormalities that may adversely impact insurability or a resale veterinary examination.
3. To establish baseline medical data for future comparison.

Survey radiographs: The radiographic views taken for survey radiographs only address the common areas of lesions. They are not meant to be a complete examination of all joints, but will identify most lesions. To identify unexpected or rare lesions or to provide complete coverage of all joints and all possible views would require many more exposures and would significantly increase the cost. If you desire an extensive radiographic exam, we can provide that service. We believe the survey views represent the best combination of practical coverage and economics.
